People Who Go to the Movies Part 2

Posted in Uncategorized on December 3, 2014 by darkdaughter11

I know it’s been a few years since my last post, but I’m going to continue where I left off. I still work at a movie theater, and I definitely still love my job. After working at a small town movie theater for over four years, I can honestly say that I’ve seen and heard a lot of things. I remembered about 10 minutes ago that I had this blog and decided, ‘hey, I have a vehicle in which to alleviate my frustrations.’ Even though I doubt this will be read by anyone, at least I can unburden myself through the written word. So here it goes:

When I tell a customer that they cannot bring a child three or under into a rated R movie, that does not mean buy a ticket for a different movie, and then sneak into the rated R one. I do not make the rules. I do however, enforce them. When I see them un-sneakily sneak into the rated R movie, I ask them to go to the movie they paid for or leave. I do not appreciate being cussed out, told that I am a pathetic human being, spit on, and being told that I must get paid $20 an hour to care that much about doing my job. That 100% happened to me, all in that order, I promise. I have feelings too. It’s not my fault that you don’t like the theater’s policy. Again, I don’t make it, I enforce it.

Also, I do not control the weather. The theater I work for has been around since the 1950’s, it leaks a bit when it rains. We usually cordon off the seats that get dripped on, put up appropriate signage, and verbally warn the customers. An unexpected rain storm blew through for 5 minutes, and the ceiling in one of the screens started to drip. A couple of customers got dripped on and came to complain. My boss apologized and explained that she didn’t know it was going to rain, and that they could move over a row to dry seats, or be given a full refund. The customers were completely and unnecessarily rude, and thankfully left. I understand that you were upset, but there are some things that we have no control of…like the weather.

For my last rant of this post, I will convey my displeasure about certain teenagers. When I tell someone under 17 years old that their parent has to buy their ticket to a rated R movie, they usually say “that’s stupid”, or “that sucks”. 5% will leave, that’s fine by me. 5% will sneak into the theater without paying. 90% will buy a ticket to a different movie. 30% of those teens will try to sneak in to the rated R movie, and almost all of those will be thrown out. Of the 5% that sneak in without payment, I had one teen who got caught, thrown out, then begged me to sell him a ticket to a movie. I was shocked at his audacity. I told him that I was not going to sell him a ticket after he tried to steal from the theater. He didn’t understand what I meant about stealing. I had to explain that sneaking into a movie without paying was stealing. Eventually I had to tell him to leave the property, or I was going to call the police because he kept harassing me and other customers.

Anyway, that’s all for now.

Stay Splendid!
