People Who Go to the Movies Part 2

Posted in Uncategorized on December 3, 2014 by darkdaughter11

I know it’s been a few years since my last post, but I’m going to continue where I left off. I still work at a movie theater, and I definitely still love my job. After working at a small town movie theater for over four years, I can honestly say that I’ve seen and heard a lot of things. I remembered about 10 minutes ago that I had this blog and decided, ‘hey, I have a vehicle in which to alleviate my frustrations.’ Even though I doubt this will be read by anyone, at least I can unburden myself through the written word. So here it goes:

When I tell a customer that they cannot bring a child three or under into a rated R movie, that does not mean buy a ticket for a different movie, and then sneak into the rated R one. I do not make the rules. I do however, enforce them. When I see them un-sneakily sneak into the rated R movie, I ask them to go to the movie they paid for or leave. I do not appreciate being cussed out, told that I am a pathetic human being, spit on, and being told that I must get paid $20 an hour to care that much about doing my job. That 100% happened to me, all in that order, I promise. I have feelings too. It’s not my fault that you don’t like the theater’s policy. Again, I don’t make it, I enforce it.

Also, I do not control the weather. The theater I work for has been around since the 1950’s, it leaks a bit when it rains. We usually cordon off the seats that get dripped on, put up appropriate signage, and verbally warn the customers. An unexpected rain storm blew through for 5 minutes, and the ceiling in one of the screens started to drip. A couple of customers got dripped on and came to complain. My boss apologized and explained that she didn’t know it was going to rain, and that they could move over a row to dry seats, or be given a full refund. The customers were completely and unnecessarily rude, and thankfully left. I understand that you were upset, but there are some things that we have no control of…like the weather.

For my last rant of this post, I will convey my displeasure about certain teenagers. When I tell someone under 17 years old that their parent has to buy their ticket to a rated R movie, they usually say “that’s stupid”, or “that sucks”. 5% will leave, that’s fine by me. 5% will sneak into the theater without paying. 90% will buy a ticket to a different movie. 30% of those teens will try to sneak in to the rated R movie, and almost all of those will be thrown out. Of the 5% that sneak in without payment, I had one teen who got caught, thrown out, then begged me to sell him a ticket to a movie. I was shocked at his audacity. I told him that I was not going to sell him a ticket after he tried to steal from the theater. He didn’t understand what I meant about stealing. I had to explain that sneaking into a movie without paying was stealing. Eventually I had to tell him to leave the property, or I was going to call the police because he kept harassing me and other customers.

Anyway, that’s all for now.

Stay Splendid!

People Who Go to the Movies

Working as a concessionist at a movie theater, i get to meet a lot of cool and interesting people. I also get to meat a lot of rude, stupid, and obnoxious people. While i act like everything is all “sunshine and rainbows” at work, i have no problems making snide comments and venting in my head. The other day i though, hmmmm…i have a blog…Eurika! lol. So here i am to vent my frustrations…here it goes…
I hate when a customer is at the concession stand ordering snacks, and talking on the phone at the same time. First of all it’s preetty rude, secondly, i really do not want to hear you talk about the awesome sex you had last night (that really happend).
Next, if you are having a problem in the movie, (crying baby next to you, people with cell phones out, people talking, sound not high enough, ect…) let us know please. Please don’t come to us after the movie and ask for your money back because you coudn’t enjoy the movie. let us fix the problem as it is happening, it’s our job, we do not mind.
As a female concessionist i get a lot of cheesy pick-up lines, looks, and sexual comments. Please keep it to yourselves. you do not need to tell me that you are undressing me with your eyes, or what you want to do to me in bed. I had a customer the other day who when asked what he would like to buy, he asked “how much for you?”. In reality, i let one of the other concessionists help him. In my mind i thought: Im sorry sir, but i sell popcorn and soda, not sex.
Finally, I love to help people and I want movie patrons to have the best experience possible. Let me help you. If you have a problem let me know. If you have a question, ask it. I can’t solve a problem if i don’t know there is one.
Let me know what ya’ll think about this post. Don’t be shy 🙂

Movies

I haven’t blogged in a very long time, but times have changed so here it goes…

I now work at a small town movie theater and have been there almost a year. Doing so has given me the opportunity to watch the new movies for free. I try to watch as many as possible, so that I can answer customers questions about the movies we are showing.

Here are a few movies you definitely want to see. *Warning: Mild Spoiler alert*

Capitan America:

In this movie based in the Second World War Era, a scrawny underdog with lots of heart and no muscle manages to enlist in the army. He is selected for a secret military experiment, and becomes “Capitan America”. He is treated as a figure-head and must team up with a few other brave souls to stop the plans of a mad man. I normally don’t watch comic book movies (i.e Iron Man, The Green Lantern, Thor…), but i felt that this one had a very good story line, as well as plenty of suspense, romance, and action. Both men and women would thoroughly enjoy this movie.

Cowboys and Aliens:

When a man wakes up in the middle of the desert in the wild, wild west, he has no idea who he is, where he is, or why the heck there is a strange metal bracelet wrapped around his wrist. While trying to rediscover his past, he must team up with a rag-tag group of people to stop aliens from talking over their world. I am neither a Western movie maniac nor a Sci-fi fanatic. I did however enjoy the blending of the two genres. It gave the poor Indians a break. ;p and was not too far-fetched or corny. Had some very serious moments, as well as some adult humor. Depending on how you react to movies, this one will most likely make you laugh, cry, and/or cheer.

The Help

This movie is about a young white writer during the Civil Rights Era. She decides to interview black female servants about what its like to wait on white women and families for a living. While stirring up scandals and setting her white community on its ear, she learns lessons about true friendship and the hardships of being a black maid in a white world. I was upset that my movie theater decided not to show this movie. After a summer of mostly guy movies and horror flicks, the women of my town are starving for a feel good movie. Management claimed it would not sell well, but they were wrong. It’s been the top box office earner since its been out, and it surpassed movies such as Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Spy Kids 4, Conan the Barbarian, and Fright Night. I think it’s worth seeing. The Help isn’t some corny chick flick, it is a good movie for anyone who is interested. If you liked The Secret Life of Bees or Fried Green Tomatoes, you will enjoy this movie.

I hope you enjoyed my little reviews or at least consider seeing these movies. Thanks 🙂

New Taxes

Posted in Uncategorized on July 24, 2010 by darkdaughter11

Here goes your “Change” folks!  Forget about the “Hope”.

Starting on January 1, 2011, the largest tax increases in the history of the United States of America will take effect. They will hit families and small businesses in three huge waves.

In the beggining, the 2001 and 2003 Tax Relief will expire. In 2001 and 2003, the GOP Congress enacted several tax cuts for investors, small business owners, and families which will all expire on January 1, 2011.

Personal income tax rates will also rise.  The highest income tax rate will increase from 35 to 39.6 percent (this is also the rate at which two-thirds of small business profits are taxed).  The lowest rate will increase from 10 to 15 percent.  All the rates in between will also rise.  Itemized deductions and personal exemptions will again phase out, which has the same mathematical effect as higher marginal tax rates. How is that going to make America better?
There will also be greater taxes on marriage and family.  The “marriage penalty” (narrower tax brackets for married couples) will return from the first dollar of income.

The child tax credit will be cut in half from $1000 to $500 per child. Families who rely on that money will be sorely disapointed, as well as the people who rely on the dependent care and adoption tax credits.

The Death Tax will also return, which could be the death of some families.

I cant write anymore for now, but tell me how you feel about the new taxes.

Hey peoples! sorry i havnt blogged in a while. whats on your minds? tell me please.

please dont hate me for what im going to say, but i have a friend of my family that makes the christmas ornaments for the white house during christmas. this year she got a letter from the white house asking her not to put any christian symbols on the CHRISTmas ornaments. they told her that the white house trees were no longer to be called christmas trees, but to be called holiday trees. they would alow any other religious symbols, besides christmas symbols. needless to say she wrote a strongly worded letter saying she would not exclude CHRIST from CHRISTmas. im sorry, but dont you think since our nation was founded on christian principles, that a christmas tree should be allowed to stand proudly in the white house just like it always has?  please write me back. id love some feedback
